Public Health Solutions was awarded a planning grant for the 2016-2017 program year to create an AmeriCorps program focused on Disaster Preparedness and Response. This program will engage members in two types of service- preparedness outreach and capacity building and training. Utilizing national resources such as Ready.gov and CNCS materials, as well as the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, members will create useful and relevant information for the public health district, starting with a focus on Saline County. With a focus on vulnerable populations (older adults, non-English speakers, etc.), we hope to utilize members to create a more educated and proactive community. Shifting the culture from disaster recovery and relief to disaster preparedness, the goal is to provide the district with the capacity needed to live healthier and safer lives.
This grant is made possible through the Corporation for National Community Service and ServeNebraska, the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission.
