Minority Health Initiative
Thanks to funding from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, we are able to offer free or low-cost health screenings for the Saline County minority population. At these screenings, minority residents (interpreters are available) can find out if they have, or are at risk for, chronic health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
Those screened can also take advantage of several health education classes:
- Diabetes classes (group or individual) – these classes are for those who have been diagnosed with diabetes, so they can learn more about the disease and practical ways of controlling it; taught by an RN/Certified Diabetes Educator.
- Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) classes – this CDC-led program helps participants make real lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, including physical activity into their daily lives, and improving problem-solving and coping skills.
